Poor Recording.

A "Good Recording" is where the sound captured by the recording is an accurate representation of the original instrument without distortion AND a minimum of noise.

Yes, a good recording of a distorted electric guitar does have distortion in the recorded sound. The distortion comes from the guitar and not the recording chain.

Crosstalk or spill should be minimised on a Good Recording to make mixing just a little easier.

Mastering a track with these issues can reduce them. The best time to resolve these issues is during the recording process in the first instance, or by taking remedial action at the Mix stage.
